TIRANA, March 18 – The topic of the meeting in Ohrid, North Macedonia, on Saturday between the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti and the President of Serbia, Aleksandër Vucic, is the implementation of a proposal of the European Union for the normalization of relations. Mediators at this table were the high representative of the EU, Josep Borrell and the special envoy of the EU for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajçak.
EU spokesman Peter Stano said that Borrell will speak at the end of the day about the final results of these meetings in a press conference in Ohrid.
Earlier, Kurti and Vucic met separately with the EU representatives, Borrell and Lajcak, and the US envoy, Gabriel Escobar.
Albin Kurti expressed his readiness for an agreement, while the Serbian president stated in Belgrade that he was not going to Ohrid to sign any document.
A day before the meeting, the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken spoke on the phone with the head of diplomacy of the European Union, Josep Borrell. In a joint statement, the two officials said that now is the moment to take significant steps in the interest of Kosovo and Serbia and for the integration process.
The US envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, is also in Ohrid. He has participated in the meeting as an observer. Escobar has expressed that he expects positive results from Saturday’s meeting in Ohrid between Albin Kurti and Aleksandër Vucic. /Argumentum.al
