TIRANA, December 14 – The leaders of Kosovo’s institutions signed on Wednesday the request for membership in the European Union, which will be officially submitted to the Czech Republic as the next leader of the 27-member bloc on Thursday.
The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani said that from now on December 14 takes on another weight as a historical date, while she underlined the determination of the institutions to successfully conclude this process.
“The process of joining the European Union is not uniform and the process as a whole can be long-term. But we are determined to succeed. We will do our part to make it as easy as possible for the EU to do its part,” she said.
The Speaker of the Parliament, Glauk Konjufca called on the bloc to respond positively to Kosovo’s request, stressing that such a response would encourage further reformation of the country.
Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that the request for membership in the European Union aims to open a new chapter for the state and society.
“Progress will depend on our commitment to deep and transformative reforms that advance democracy, strengthen the rule of law and develop our economy. The speed at which we will move will depend on us, therefore everyone’s commitment is necessary and everyone’s dedication is necessary,” said Prime Minister Kurti. /Argumentum.al
