TIRANA, May 2 – The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, approved the Declaration on the Disappeared from the last war in Kosovo, which was also the first item on the agenda in the meeting they are holding in Brussels with the mediation of European Union officials on Tuesday.
The representative of the Foreign Policy of the European Union (EU), Josep Borrell, issued an official statement after the adoption of the Declaration on Missing Persons at the high-level Kosovo-Serbia meeting, Metro newspaper reported.
Borrell assessed the importance of this agreement which he considered very important for the continuation of the dialogue.
Earlier EU sources said that they expected that after the parties approve the Declaration on Missing Persons, as the first item on the agenda, it will be followed by the presentation and discussions on the draft statute for the formation of the Association of Serb-majority municipalities in Kosovo.
The draft statute for the formation of this association, drawn up by a management team, consisting of four members of the Serbian community – including a member of the Serbian Parliament is on the negotiating table.
The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, said earlier that a draft of the Association’s statute would have to be presented by Kosovo, because “we do not dare to allow the draft of the so-called management team, which in reality is Vucic’s draft, to become the basis of negotiations.”
Kosovo and Serbia have reached an agreement on this Association since 2013, but it has never been implemented. Serbia has constantly insisted on wider powers for it, while Kosovo has said that such a thing would undermine the functionality of the state. /Argumentum.al
