TIRANA, February 8– The Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti is in the USA where he will participate in the extraordinary meeting of the United Nations Security Council, where the situation in Kosovo will be discussed.
This session was called at the request of Serbia, after Kosovo’s decision to ban the Serbian dinar and due to the closure of several parallel Serbian municipalities.
In this meeting, Serbia will be represented by President Aleksandar Vučić, while Kosovo is expected to be represented by Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
Since February 1, the regulation of the Central Bank of Kosovo for cash operations has entered into force in Kosovo.
This regulation stipulates that the only currency for payments is the euro, prohibiting the use of the Serbian dinar.
The national currency of Serbia has been used by Serbs in Kosovo since the end of the war in 1999.
Likewise, Serbia pays Kosovo’s Serbian citizens, through a parallel system, salaries, pensions, social assistance and other benefits.
Serb List- the main party of Serbs in Kosovo – has said that nearly 100,000 Serbs will be affected by the CBK’s decision.
The Serbian President, Aleksandar Vučić, has stated that his country has 31,831 employees in Kosovo, 29,115 pensioners – of which 4,700 receive their pensions – and 31,586 social assistance users.
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has said that the implementation of the regulation is being done through a transition period, insisting that the CBK’s decision does not mean the banning of the Serbian dinar.
