TIRANA, October 17 – The meeting at the parliamentary Law Commission, which discussed the opening of Sigurimi (communist state security) files on Monday, was held amidst quarrels among the deputies. During the discussions, Democratic Party (DP) deputy Enkelejd Alibeaj demanded the opening of all the files, accusing the socialists of protecting the former communist leaders of this Balkan country.
“With the entry into force of this law, every institution has the obligation to publish the bibliography of state documents for the period November 29, 1944 to July 2, 1991, which is fully declassified. Every person has the right to get to know the documents of the former state security and to request a copy of them in accordance with the law on information,” said Alibeaj.
But the Socialist Party lawmaker, Pandeli Majko, did not agree. “What separates us here is that we are in favor of opening files according to all proposals. We say we should be a little more reserved. Let’s leave the opening of the file as a relationship between the victim and his file. You want the file to become like Facebook,” said Majko, a former PM.
According to him, there are also details in the file, which perhaps the victim does not want to know because there are victims who were forced to become spies.
“Spies did not keep the communist regime. Some others have kept it. We hold the discussion as if the whole system has been maintained by these people… Did those who were being killed think of building the Burrel prison?! If we want to make rhetoric after 30 years, these are stupid things,” said Majko, who told Alibeaj that opposition MPs are discussing like teenagers.
Alibeaj retorted by saying that Majko was a communist minded person and could not hold a lecture to the opposition.
“Get away you fool,” was the tit-for-tat reply of Majko as the chairperson of the commission adjourned the meeting. /Argumentum.al
