TIRANA, October 26 – The head of the Democratic Party (DP), Sali Berisha, responded on Wednesday to the statement of the US Deputy Secretary of State, Gabriel Escobar the day before in an interview for the Voice of America.
In a reaction on Facebook, Berisha said, among other things, that Escobar “repeated slanders against me through the Voice of America, but as always, unable to convey even a single fact.” Berisha said that his declaration non-grata 8 years after he had renounced any leadership and decision-making role in the Democratic Party, had and has as its main purpose to help the government of PM Edi Rama.
As for Escobar’s call to the justice institutions to investigate Sali Berisha for corruption, the latter stressed: “I call on him to at least respect the demands that are made by Congress to make transparent this decision based totally on slander!”
In conclusion DP chairman said all those who support Berisha have boundless gratitude to the US for its historical role in the sovereignty of Albania and Kosovo, but they are patriots and can never accept that anyone other than Albanian citizens appoints the members of their parliament. /Argumentum.al
