In a landslide result, the current chairman of the Democratic Party (DP), Lulzim Basha has been reconfirmed as head of this opposition political force for another 4-year mandate clearing his way to run it until the other general elections are held in Albania putting him again in face of the current PM Edi Rama, who is in his third mandate.
The chairman of the Electoral Commission in the Democratic Party, Jemin Gjana, officially announced on Monday the chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, after the internal elections in this party. Gjana told the media that the Election Commission in the DP has just completed the preparation and declaration of the final official result.
“We have administered 76 ballot boxes of 76 voting commissions throughout the country in the presence of the commission. The boxes have been opened one by one and the data have been documented in the minutes. From the administered minutes it results that in all cases, the commissioners have signed together with the representatives of the candidates in the race,” he said. Gjana stated that 41,097 members out of 75,767 registered DP members voted.
Some 781 members voted for Fatbardh Kadilli, 983 for Edit Harxhi, 6038 for Agron Shehaj, and 32,882 for Lulzim Basha.
“Based on these data, the Election Commission in the Democratic Party officially announces the winner of the race Lulzim Basha,” said Gjana.
In the meantime, it was announced by the DP press office that the European People’s Parties have congratulated Basha on his re-election at the helm of the Democratic Party. The message of the EPP states that “we will continue stronger and more united in the battle for a European and democratic Albania.”
The challengers of Basha have contested the election and the result, something which they had warned earlier. /argumentum.al
