TIRANA, April 27 – Energy Minister Belinda Balluku and the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj inspected the progress of the works for the construction of the Tirana-Durrës railway on Thursday.
In her speech, Balluku said that an electric train will operate on the Tirana-Durrës-Rinas railway line that will not have carbon emissions.
“The Tirana-Durrës railway is supported by the European Union, as an important package of efficient and effective transport,” said Balluku, who stressed that this railway is very important because it connects Tirana with Durrës, but it will also connect Tirana with the new port of Durrës to be built in Porto Romano.
“This is an electric train, which will have a speed from this point to Durrës of 120 km/h, while from this point to Tirana it will vary from 50-80 km/h; so it will be at a moderate speed, given that it will enter the city,” said the minister.
According to her, the Tirana-Durrës-Rinas railway with a length of 39 km costs 70 million euros and it will be ready in September of 2024.
Balluku said that the railway is financed through a grant of 35 million euros from the European Union and a soft loan of 35 million euros, with 1% interest, from the EBRD. /Argumentum.al
