TIRANA, May 28 – The counting of ballots at the headquarters of the Democratic Party (DP) for the election of the new Chairmanship has ended and 227 members of the National Council out of 280 participated in the voting on Saturday. The National Council voted to elect 20 members of the Chairmanship. Some 14 members will be men and 6 women.
Belind Këlliçi is the most voted with 192 votes, followed by Flamur Noka with 166 votes and Oerd Bylykbashi with 148 votes. Results showed that former General Secretary Arben Ristani returned to the Chairmanship.
The most voted woman member was Fatbardha Kadiu with 141 votes, followed by Ina Zhupa with 126 votes and Jozefina Topalli, a former Speaker and DP deputy chairwoman, with 118 votes, who also returned to the Chairmanship. Most of these senior DP officials were expelled by the former head, Lulzim Basha.
