It keeps growing the number of foreign citizens who get the Albanian citizenship granted by the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj. An announcement of the Municipality said that 18 new foreign citizens swore before the mayor Veliaj for loyalty to the Albanian state and for the respect of the Constitution and the legislation of the Republic of Albania.
The citizens who officially received Albanian citizenship were mainly from Turkey, Serbia, Romania, North Macedonia, Kosovo and Libya, according to an announcement by the municipality on Tuesday.
Mayor Veliaj said that this is a special year for Tirana and for the citizens who received citizenship because regardless of age their birthday coincides with Albanian citizenship.
After going through these very difficult situations he promised to have time to be more together, where each of them becomes part of the community of young and old Albanians.
Veliaj underlined that despite two difficult years as a result of the pandemic, Albania knew how to rise stronger than before. “It has been two very difficult years, with the earthquake first and then the pandemic, but the fact that you have been part of our community in these difficult times means that we will be even more together in the beautiful days ahead,” he said.
The Mayor revealed that 144 different nationalities from all over the world already live in Tirana, the European Capital of Youth.
“Tirana is a place of 144 different nationalities, and it is a great joy as a part of these nationalities have chosen to be ours forever, part of this community, citizens of Albania, of the same Albania where we share the nationality with Skanderbeg and Mother Teresa,” said Veliaj. / Argumentum.al
