TIRANA – President Stevo Pendarosvski addressed Sunday an event at the Pelince-based ASNOM Memorial Center on occasion of the 76th anniversary from the Anti- fascist Assembly for the National Liberation of Macedonia (ASNOM) and 117 years from the Ilinden Uprising, saying August 2 is an exceptional reminder on the historic and modern significance of the Ilinden cause.
“The vision for an interethnic and inter-religious cohabitation is achieved in the present Republic of North Macedonia as the homeland of its citizens united around the principles of freedom, human rights, democracy and solidarity,” said Pendarovski as quoted by MIA news agency.
Referring to the recent elections, he expects a swift formation of the Parliament and the Government, which would not have the ease of the first 100 days in power.
Pendarovski said the current C19 health crisis has turned into an economic, political and moral crisis worldwide, and it will be in the country for the months to come.
In the meantime, in his congratulation for the Republic Day on Sunday Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi said Ilinden is a symbol of the aspiration for a better tomorrow, a better life of future generations, a just society, progress and higher values.
He referred to the current health crisis saying COVID-19 challenge can be overcome through observance of measures, reason and proper conduct, so that future holidays are observed in masses, united and free.
The holiday was celebrated against the background of C19 virus and Sunday’s announcement from the Health Ministry said there were 166 confirmed infected cases while 4 persons passed away.
Since the outbreak of the epidemic, North Macedonia has registered 11,054 confirmed coronavirus cases, while the death toll stands at 497. There have been 105,357 tests performed in the country until now./argumentum.al
