TIRANA, November 20 – President Bajram Begaj had a telephone conversation with the Prefect of Shkodra, Majlinda Angoni, who informed him about the dangerous situation created by bad weather in the Shkodra District, in the northern part of Albania, due to heavy rainfall over the last 24 hours.
Begaj expressed particular concern over the serious incident in Malesia e Madhe, where the raging waters took away the car with three people in it, and fortunately a girl managed to escape with the help of a resident of the area. Nothing is known about the other two – father and son, as yet. The President expressed his support for this family.
At the same time, the President encouraged and supported the Renea forces, those of civil emergencies, as well as the Armed Forces, who were at the scene in search of the father and son. He also asked for maximum efforts to help every family at risk from this extreme weather.
In the meantime it is reported that hundreds of hectares of areas have been flooded and the worst situation is in the lowland areas of Shkodra. This region is prone to flooding because of the lack of construction of infrastructure close to the three rivers and the lake. Also, the opening of the gates of the dam of the Vau Deja’s hydropower station brings about inundations. /Argumentum. al
