TIRANA- There are no cases of corona virus in Albania, has reconfirmed the Health Ministry which unveiled last Saturday that 59 suspected cases had been tested in 6 districts of this Balkan country surrounded by neighboring countries that have been affected severely by the epidemic with Italy have been hit the worst by it.
“Health institutions are going on with testing COVID- 19 cases and the virology laboratory at the Public Health Institute has carried out a total examination of 59 cases and all the cases have resulted negative,” said the Ministry.
The suspected patients have been mainly from the districts of Tirana, Shkodra, Durres, Fier, Lezha and Vlora which, as a matter of fact, have most of the contacts with the regional neighborhood.
“The Technical Committee set up to deal with COVID-19 has determined how it will be proceeded in the first case (No. 1) and afterwards for the clinical management of the situation,” it was said, adding that the Infections Hospital will handle the first cases.
There have been as many as 1,392 calls at the 127 hotline and 29 persons were seen by the specialized staff because of infectious respiratory virals and due to the fact that some had travelled to Italy.
But the opposition sees the situation as critical holding the government responsible for carelessness in coping with the situation.
The former health minister, Tritan Shehu, a senior official of the Democratic Party, the largest opposition political force in the country, called on the government on Sunday to declare the emergency situation.
“Today the emergency situation should be declared in Albania,” urged Mr. Shehu who considered this step as indispensable given among others the epidemiological situation in the region./argumentum.al
