Topçiu is known as the oligarch of medicines. The news was announced by the police, and his arrest was made during the operation codenamed ‘Profit’.
Topçiu, 57, is accused of selling thousands of smuggled drugs during the pandemic period.
The drugs that were sold in the market at a price many times higher than they were bought are: ‘inhixa, clexane, favira, alphagan, cyrotex, aricept, medro, co aprovel.’
It is suspected that these medicines were brought to Albania after being bought for 20 dollars and some of them were sold for up to 50,000 ALL. The same sources confirm that all unregistered drugs were mainly used to treat Covid-19.
The investigation lasted about 1 year, while the prosecution requested ‘arrest in prison’, but the Court decided to leave in house arrest the persons identified as: Blerim Bitri, 40 years old, administrator of a pharmacy; Florian Marku, 39, administrator of a pharmacy; Margarita Xhaxhiu, 64, suspected of sending smuggled goods; Jani Papuli, 66 years old, employed by Margarita Xhaxhiu; Florian Lila, 40, administrator of a pharmacy; Bashkim Osmani, 56 years old, administrator of a pharmaceutical warehouse.
These persons were left under the security measure ‘house arrest’ on Monday. The operation codenamed ‘Profit’ was conducted by the Section for Investigation of Economic and Financial Crime in cooperation with the Prosecutor’s Office of the Tirana Judicial District. Investigators have made controlled purchases in several cases. The sale of these drugs has lasted throughout the months. / argumentum.al
