The Democratic Party (DP), the largest political force in Albania, has called “unconstitutional” the decision of the Parliament to dismiss President Ilir Meta with 104 votes in favor.
“The unconstitutional attack of the illegitimate Parliament on the Institution of the President of the Republic is an act that deepens even more the anti-democratic features of the Rama-Doshi regime. This act comes immediately after the electoral massacre and the biggest vote robbery ever committed,” said the DP statement on Thursday.
The DP urges the Constitutional Court to maintain impartiality and guarantee the independence of constitutional institutions.
The final decision on Meta’s dismissal depend on the ruling of the Constitutional Court which has to make it within 3 months after receiving the parliamentary report.
As for Prime Minister Edi Rama, DP says that he has violated the Constitution hundreds of times and has been exposed to Albanians as an enemy of democracy and the rule of law.
Representatives of organized crime in the one-party Parliament of Albania can never be the guarantor of the Constitution, nor can they take decisions on its behalf.
“The Democratic Party considers unconstitutional the decision of the one-party Parliament to dismiss the President of the Republic and urges the Constitutional Court to maintain impartiality and guarantee the independence of constitutional institutions, rejecting the farce of dismissing the President of the Republic,” the statement concluded. / argumentum.al
