TIRANA, September 5 – Some 43 MPs of the opposition gathered at the invitation of the former chairman of the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party, Gazment Bardhi in Tirana on Tuesday to discuss the parliamentary and non-parliamentary agenda.
In his speech, Bardhi appealed for unity of the opposition. Emphasizing that among the opposition legislators there are more elements that unite than divide them, he said electoral reform is the headline of the opposition’s agenda.
“I think that, of course, today we should talk about issues that bring us together, but without leaving aside other issues for the benefit of Albanians. But starting from the issues that bring us together, I am convinced that we can find solutions for issues that from our point of view may seem completely opposite,” he said.
“I share the belief and I believe with most of you, that this will not prevent us from unifying a position of our opposition action against the misgovernment of Edi Rama, starting with a common parliamentary agenda,” Bardhi said.
For his part, the DP chairman, Sali Berisha asked for the coordination of the opposition’s work inside and outside the Assembly, warning of protests.
He invited those who would be available to attend a presentation of the report on the electoral farce of May 14 on Wednesday. “There is nothing that we do not know, but there is one thing, that we fact and document, we stand up against that concept that says: this one steals the elections, but wins them,” said Berisha. “It is not an easy mission; it is a very difficult mission. It is a difficult mission because Edi Rama has created the criminal mechanisms of stealing mandates,” he said.
In the meantime Berisha said that only sustainable popular protests can punish PM Rama. Berisha also invited other opposition forces to join.
“This is a meeting of deputies from the DP list in the 2021 elections. Coordination with other opposition political forces such as the Freedom Party and the Party for Justice, Integration and Unity, if they wish so that a broad and efficient front can be created,” said Berisha. /argumentum.al
