Kosovo’s acting president Vjosa Osmani has commended the snap mayoral elections in municipalities of Podujeva and Mitrovica North which were held on Sunday.
The Republic of Kosovo proved it could organize free, fair, and democratic election,
Osmani said in a press release issued on Monday.
“I congratulate all citizens of Podujeva and Mitrovica North for the maturity during the election process, despite the fact the elections were organised amid COVID-19 pandemic,” Osmani wrote in the statement. She also congratulated the Central Elections Commission (CEC) and civil society in organising and observing the extraordinary elections in these two municipalities.
The CEC announced that the Vetevendosje candidate, Shpejtim Bulliqi won elections in Podujeva, whereas Milan Radojevic of the Srpska List won in Mitrovica North. The early elections in these two municipalities were organised after former mayors resigned to join the Government of Kosovo.
In the meantime the Head of the EU Office in Kosovo, Tomas Szunyog said that he appreciates voters who participated in Podujeva and Mitrovica North elections affected by COVID-19 restrictions.
“Active citizens’ involvement is important for credible election process and democracy,” Szunyog wrote on Twitter. He also thanked the Central Elections Commission for organizing elections on Sunday. “Good work done by the CEC,” Szunyog tweeted.
