TIRANA, November 23 – Joined together from Albania, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, the Presheva Valley, but also wherever they live in the Diaspora, the Albanians who participated in the third Diaspora summit on Thursday were of one mind, that never more than today the Albanian factor has not been in better positions.
Politics should repay the debt it owes to the Diaspora, an obligation that was articulated by President Bajram Begaj.
“Albania does not have the luxury of neglecting the diaspora”, said Begaj.
One of the ongoing demands of Diaspora representatives is the right to vote, which continues to be an unexercised right in Albania, while in Kosovo it will be a reality in the next elections, says President Vjosa Osmani.
“Our emigrants will finally have the right to vote in our embassies and consulates,” said Osmani.
Chosen as the head of the Coordinating Council for the Diaspora, the Albanian-American with many contributions, Mark Gjonaj, thinks that a clear strategy is required to unite the Albanians, which he believes can only be done by the 2 heads of government of Tirana and Pristina.
“We request that you enter a room and do not leave the room until you make a plan and come out with the message that our people need,” said Gjonaj.
In the meantime, according to PM Edi Rama, Albanians now lead or are a key factor in governance in 4 countries of Southeast Europe, but also because great figures of art, culture and sport have increased the world image of the country.
The concrete product achieved by this two-day summit of the Diaspora was the decision of the Albanian government to declare November 22, the Day of the Alphabet, a national holiday, a request articulated by President Begaj and that Rama proposes to implement in Kosovo as well.
“It should be a national holiday. I believe that the President of Kosovo will also give this suggestion to her Prime Minister, I listen to the President for myself,” said Rama. /argumentum.al
