The acting chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) Enver Hoxhaj is expected to run for prime minister in the upcoming elections expected to be held in Kosovo in January or early February 2021.
The PDK convened on Thursday its chairmanship and decided that Hoxhaj will lead the election list and was proposed as party’s candidate for prime minister, according to Gazeta Express.
PDK was left without its chairman after Kadri Veseli resigned following confirmation of the indictment by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague accusing Veseli of war crimes for his role as Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) commander during the war with Serbia in 1998-1999.
Kosovo is expected to hold snap election after the Constitutional Court ruled on 21 December that the election of Avdullah Hoti’s Government was illegal because one member of Parliament who voted the government was convicted with a final court’s decision. The vote of MP Etem Arifi was crucial for Hoti’s government, to form majority and get 61 votes in the 120-seat parliament.
Enver Hoxhaj was deputy prime minister in Ramush Haradinaj’s government and minister of Foreign Affairs in Isa Mustafa’s Government. /argumentum.al
