The US Embassy in Tirana has reacted after the ruling made by the Constitutional Court regarding the request of the Parliament for the dismissal of President Ilir Meta. In a reaction on social networks on Thursday, the embassy stated that the court is showing the ability to fulfill its functions.
“The Constitutional Court of Albania, which achieved functionality in December 2020, is demonstrating its ability to serve its primary and essential function by reviewing the facts and arguments presented by relevant parties, deliberating on these facts and arguments as they relate to the Constitution, and rendering judgments that reflect independence and integrity,” said the statement released by the US Embassy.
However the statement avoided to mention the name of President Meta as the case was linked with him letting the Albanian public opinion to guess who prompted their reaction.
But it reiterated the US strong support to the implementation of justice reform in Albania. “The United States strongly supports the implementation of justice reform, including a professional, independent judiciary as a core institution for the guarantee of the rule of law as well as the separation and balancing of powers,” the statement concluded.
In the meantime, Prime Minister Edi Rama has rejected suppositions whereby he stands behind the decision of the Constitutional Court which turned down the decision of the parliament for the dismissal of Ilir Meta as president. “Swearing, ridicule, slander are not arguments, while I do not know how to make believe,” said Rama in a statement on Thursday, which seems more as a confused self excuse regarding his personality than Meta’s case and coincided with that of the the US Embassy in time and style.
Presidential spokesman Tedi Blushi said on Thursday the verdict of the Constitutional Court contained “zero surprises for the President. This case should not have started. ”
If the utterances of the US Embassy and PM Rama are elaborated the first wonder is that they do not mention President and secondly both institutions seem to have hard times to defend themselves in face of a heinous scheme which has turned into a boomerang onto its architects.
In any case 104 MPs of the left or the right or of any political affiliation should feel ashamed for what they engineered being misused by their lords and at least should apologize to Albanians and the head of state for one of the most shameful plots in Albanian political life or in the best case relinquish their parliamentary mandates. / argumentum.al
