TIRANA, November 3 – Prime Minister Edi Rama has announced that the 2024 draft budget earmarks 400 million euros for salaries and 250 million euros have been made available for pensions.
At the meeting of the extended Assembly of the Socialist Party in Fier on Friday, Rama said that, “of course, every time pensions are talked about, this is a pain due to the fact that the calculations are not yet done to make a higher increase, because pensions are directly linked to insurance, and in a country where until yesterday social security was as big a hole but invisible in the eyes of the people, it is very difficult to do what you do with wages.”
On the other hand, he said, the budget of 7 billion is more than double the budget that the country had when the Socialist took office, and one third is for social protection, social care. In this 33%, there are not only pensions, but also economic assistance, unemployment payments, social assistance, ex-persecuted people, ex-owners etc.
Rama highlighted the fact that 33% of the 7 billion euros go only for defense, for social care in the 2024 budget. “We are a NATO country, we have the obligations assumed as NATO members and for the first time, Albania has 2% of the budget for the army, which means 2% is the criterion that fulfills the obligation to NATO,” the PM said. /argumentum.al
