TIRANA, July 2 – The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has called the sanctions that the European Union has imposed on him because of the tensions in the north of the country unfair. Kurti said on Sunday that those measures had been taken against a pro-EU country facing pro-Russian Serbia.
“These are not sanctions, but it is true that they are temporary measures, but unfair because Kosovo and its government are both the state and the most democratic, pro-European and progressive executive,” he said, adding that on the other hand we have a constant confrontation with various forms of aggression by Serbia, which is an autocratic and pro-Russia state and has not been faced with the criminal past in the space of the former Yugoslavia, where it has caused 4 wars.
However, according to Kurti, the Kosovo government will not compromise with the rule of law, adding that it hopes that the EU’s measures will be short-term.
The leaders of the opposition of Kosovo have also reacted to the measures of the EU, accusing Kurti of harming the interests of the country.
“Albin Kurti and his policy cannot make Kosovo a European state. Kosovo has never been worse internationally than today. Serbia has never had more support than now,” said Lumir Abdixhiku, chairman of the LDK.
“With his actions, this irresponsible prime minister is putting Kosovo on the map of sanctioned countries where only Russia, Belarus, Moldova and Republika Srpska belong,” said Memli Krasniqi, Chairman of PDK.
The opposition has appealed to the government to immediately find a common language with international partners to solve the crisis in the north of the country. /argumentum.al
