The price of energy for family and small business consumers will not be increased, Prime Minister Edi Rama declared in plenary session of Parliament on Thursday.
The Prime Minister recalled that this comes at a time when electricity in international markets has doubled and may even quadruple.
“Regarding this package, we still stand by our commitment that we will not increase the price of electricity for any Albanian family,” Rama said.
He informed that the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy is conducting a study on rich families not to create segments of consumers, but to see if a temporary scheme can be made according to which those who have more pay more on the energy bill.
Meanwhile, Rama stressed that “no family will have an increase in the energy bill, where the state will continue to pay the difference which can be 3-4 times higher.”
Government head stressed that “now we are in a situation where we no longer talk about prices, but about the lack in the market.” Rama stressed that “today the electricity supply crisis is at a peak that the world considers similar to the crisis of 1974.”
“It is really scary to think that we are in those conditions when there has been a lack of supply of oil, gas, electricity and food,” the PM said. /Argumentum.al
