Prime Minister Edi Rama has said that Albania has expressed readiness to receive citizens from Ukraine.
Rama made that revelation shortly after the extraordinary NATO summit on Ukraine on Friday.
“We were engaged in the summit and other countries did the samedn’t on Friday not like the first time for the desolate Afghans left on the road, to welcome and shelter people, family members who are leaving or will leave Ukraine,” he said.
Albania is in the process of sheltering Afghan refugees and according to official figures more than 1000 have settled down while the government has promised to welcome more than 3000 Afghans. In the meantime a large number of Mujahideen are sheltered in the suburban area of Tirana in a residential complex guarded by them and no one is allowed to enter. The first group of refugees were Uyghurs brought by US.
According to Rama, it is natural to say the above because this is Albanian history. “In this situation and in this conflict the issue of these people will be in the attention of many countries. All the countries of the east wing have spoken openly about this. I gave this information to avoid any speculation, 200,000, 300,000 will come. There is no question of such figures,” said Rama who, however, could not mention any figure. / Argumentum.al
