In a comment on the decision of the Constitutional Court to overturn the decision of Parliament to dismiss President Ilir Meta, Prime Minister Edi Rama replied to the interest of one of his followers in social networks saying that the Constitutional Court does not depend on the government.
Below is the full comment released on Friday by Rama which is addressed to the a citizen named Bajram:
“The Constitutional Court does not depend on the government, dear Bajram, and I do not understand what failure you are talking about, because in fact the Constitutional Court came out against our decision! Ah, if you have thought that I should also control the Constitutional Court then this is not my fault, because my task is completely different. As long as we have chosen this system, we must also agree with the fact that independent powers can take decisions we do not like! I do not want to comment on the court’s decisions, because it does not belong to me, but to be told that a court decision is completely against my position is a disappointment from me, this is completely absurd,” Rama said.
The Constitutional Court ruled on Wednesday evening to rule against the decision of Parliament and out of 7 judges who took part in the process only 1 voted for the dismissal of the President Ilir Meta.
Meta’s presidential mandate ends on July 24, 2022 and as the 140-member Parliament is controlled by the Socialists it will be their say which will be predominant in the pick up of the new head of state. / Argumentum.al
