TIRANA, May 31 – Prime Minister Edi Rama commented on the deployment of the Serbian army on the border with Kosovo, which he called the most incredible display of internal politics. Rama participated on Wednesday in the discussion panel on the Balkans “Open Roads: Balkans Back in Business”, which is taking place in Slovakia.
Speaking about the situation in the north of Kosovo and the deployment of the Serbian army on the border, Rama said that the Serbian army on the border of Kosovo has a power equal to zero.
“It’s like if the Mexican army showed up at the US border, what would happen? What can it do? Nothing, absolutely nothing. It is only about domestic politics. It has a lot to do with internal politics what happens on the border with Kosovo,” said Rama.
The Prime Minister emphasized that today the Western Balkans is in its best position. “Even between Kosovo and Serbia things have not been better because they are only one step away from closing a historic agreement. Now both sides have a kind of hesitation because they see that this will be done and they will no longer have to fight each other,” he said.
The Prime Minister stated that the conflict in the north of Kosovo has a reason, which could have been completely avoided and in this frame he mentioned the fact that there are mayors elected by 1% of the population, while 99% of the community there did not vote and they feel unrepresented.
“But the bottom line is that there is an agreement that must be concluded, the mutual recognition that is something extraordinary and there is a reluctance to reach this agreement that produces these situations,” said Rama. /Argumentum.al
