TIRANA – Speaking for the first time since the deadlock of the Political Committee on the Electoral Reform, PM Edi Rama has said that there was no improvement regarding the progress of the electoral reform.
In his address on Thursday to the plenary session of Parliament Rama was displeased with the opposition which, as he said, makes demands on the electoral reform then it makes harsh accusations against the government.
“There is no improvement regarding the electoral reform situation. Opposition is finding it hard to overcome cultural communication and a political culture that have become a major problem in this country, along with the way the news media portray them,” said Rama.
Last Tuesday, opposition’s co-chairman of the Committee Oerd Bylykbashi revealed that they had made a proposal on the formula for the selection and appointment of the three structures of CEC which is similar to that of the judicial system, a proposal which has been rejected by the majority right away.
“The opposition is showing its own particular culture, the culture of accusation, the culture of slander, the culture of division, the culture of psychological disorientation which are likely to influence the worst example,” said Rama.
Earlier SP’s co-chairman of Political Committee on the Electoral Reform, Damian Gjiknuri said the Socialist Party considers opposition’s proposal out of the frame of the agreement inviting it to bring a new proposal based on the principles that the CEC formula should be new in respect of the fact that Parliament is the sovereign for the election of CEC.
In face of the energetic involvement of the parliamentary opposition deputies with some proposals among which open lists and the question of pre-electoral coalitions the political document signed on June 5 with the mediation of ambassadors of US, EU and UK is in peril of failing to pass in Parliament. /argumentum.al
