Stray Russian missiles landed in Poland on Tuesday, killing two people on Nato territory, the US has confirmed.
Mateusz Morawiecki, the Polish prime minister, called an emergency meeting of the country’s national security committee to address the “crisis situation”.
Local reports said two people died in an explosion in the village of Przewodow, close to the border with Ukraine.
The blast occurred just before 4pm local time, at the same time Moscow launched a significant missile barrage at Lviv, Ukraine’s most western city.
The deadly incident marks the first time a Russian attack on Ukraine has killed someone inside neighbouring Nato territory since the start of the war.

Jens Stoltenberg, Nato’s secretary general, has previously claimed its 30 members would defend and protect every inch of its territory in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
However, defence sources issued caution, stressing it was likely an “accident” by Russia.
