Tirana – Polish Cultural Week 2025 begins on Monday, marked by an opening event in the evening at the Cloud (Reja). Polish Song and Dance Ensemble “Silesianie” will perform traditional Polish dances and engage the public in a flashmob dance of “Polonaise” – a dance on UNESCO’s List of Cultural Heritage of Humanity. They will be joined on stage by Albanian Ansambli i Këngëve e Valleve Popullore (AKVP). The following day, masterclass of Polish traditional dances will be offered to students of the Faculty of Dance at the Academy of Arts.
Monika Filipina – an award-winning Polish children books author and illustrator will hold Art Workshops for children at the Puppet Theatre. Monika Filipina wrote and illustrated over 50 books published worldwide in more than 20 languages. She will also meet children, parents and educators in Europe House to tell how stories are born and to present a selection of her works.
The screenings of two Polish movies at the Academy of Arts will offer the public an opportunity to engage in a conversation with the international prize-winning film director Joanna Kos-Krauze, on themes that are as individual as they are universal. “Papusza” tells a unique story of a Romani (Gypsy) poetess whose poetry, discovered by chance, showcases the diversity of Poland’s cultures. “Birds Are Singing in Kigali” deals with the experience of trauma elaboration and transmission. After the screenings Mrs. Kos-Krazue will conduct a masterclass for students of Faculty of Theater and Film at the University of Arts.
Two professional coaches from the Polish Volleyball Association will conduct training sessions with a group of Albanian youth from Ismail Qemali school. In the course of trainings teams of players will be selected to play a final match with teams trained by Albanian Volleyball Association, at Vasil Shanto Elementary School.
Concerts of Polish jazz band JAH Trio offered in the framework of the International Jazz Festival in Albania, will conclude the Polish Cultural Week. The band will perform in Tirana and Shkodra in its original line-up: Jan Jarecki – piano, Michał Aftyka – double bass, Marcin Sojka – drums. Michał Aftyka is a winner of “Fryderyki”, the most important award in the Polish music industry.
