TIRANA, November 16 – The Durres port project is one of the most important strategic projects that have ever been developed in Albania, involving 2 billion euros, with great economic impact not only on the Durres area, but throughout Albania and the region, said the Minister of Infrastructure, Belinda Balluku.
Balluku unveiled the draft law on the strategic investment project “Durres Marina & Yachts” in the Assembly’s Productive Activity Committee on Wednesday.
According to her, this activity is related to the construction of several buildings that will serve as commercial units, residences, but also units where entertainment activities will be accommodated.
“The fact that one of the most important marinas in the Mediterranean will be developed in the former port of Durrës is important. Here I would highlight the fact that yachts that are over 100 meters will be parked. 12,000 employees will be engaged in this investment, including the construction works, but also in the management of the businesses that will be developed there”, said Balluku.
Albania’s plan is for the port of Durrës, as the main port of the country where 98% of maritime work is carried out, to handle capacity for several decades to come, as the country intends to return to a regional center in terms of maritime transport, the minister stressed.
Balluku said that the legislation provides for an open competition for every strategic investor, having a permanent open competition for strategic investments in Albania. /Argumentum.al
