TIRANA, March 5 – President Bajram Begaj on Sunday commemorated the 25th anniversary of the battle of Prekaz in Kosovo, where the legendary commander, Adem Jashari was killed like other members of his family.
“Today, on this 25th anniversary of the Battle of Prekaz, we respectfully honor the hero and legendary commander, Adem Jashari, as well as the martyrs of freedom who laid down their lives in this battle after three days of resistance and heroism,” said the President.
Begaj pointed out that the endurance and heroism of Adem Jashari and his family would be needed for Kosovo to begin a new era, that of freedom and democracy.
“They are the cornerstone of its freedom. Glory to the heroic deed of the legendary Commander, Adem Jashari and all those who sacrificed for the freedom of Kosovo,” declared President Begaj.
On March 5, 6 and 7, 1998, the Jashari family was surrounded by Serbian forces for the third time. Adem Jashari and his 21 family members resisted the Serbian forces for three consecutive days.
As a sign of solidarity with the resistance of Adem Jashari’s family, the Jashari neighborhood of Prekaz also joined them.
Some 20 members of the Jashari family and 34 members of the Jashari neighborhood from Prekazi were killed in this battle between the Jashari family and the Serbian forces. /Argumentum.al
