TIRANA – “Albania’s membership in NATO eleven years ago is one of the biggest and most important events in the history of the Albanian state and nation,” has said President Ilir Meta in a message on the 11th anniversary of the membership of this Balkan country in NATO.
Albania became a full NATO member on April 1, 2009.
“Gratitude to all those men and women, in politics, but also in the military and security field, who led with vision, worked and realized this transformative and integrative project,” said Meta in a message posted on his FB account on Saturday.
He extended a special thank to the US President, George W. Bush. Bush, who, as the message reads, with his unforgettable visit to Tirana inspired and supported the joint efforts for the final realization of that major goal.
In conclusion Albanian President said: “Now this anniversary is becoming even more meaningful because 17 years after the signing of the Adriatic Charter, not only Albania and Croatia, but fortunately also North Macedonia is a member of NATO.”
In another comment on Saturday Meta launched an appeal to all citizens to strictly follow all the instructions and restrictions made public due to the Covid -19 pandemic. Only by following them the citizens can protect their health and help the medical staff, who are sacrificing and risking their health.
In the meantime, Meta said that it was important that every government act taken in this situation should be subjected to a deep assessment in proportion to the situation that necessarily dictates their approval.
According to him, every measure must be in line with the public and national interest and in harmony with the hierarchy of applicable norms so that the restrictions do not threaten to create new social and judicial conflicts./argumentum.al
