TIRANA – “I am following with great attention and concern the situation of Albanian citizens who are stranded at border crossings with Greece and Montenegro,” has said President Ilir Meta.
Hundreds of Albanian citizens have been trapped for some days at the Greek and Montenegrin border crossings as a result of the coronavirus crisis as the Albanian government has decided to close the borders for its citizens in the frame of the drive to restrict the spread of coronavirus epidemic.
“The situation of their reception at the Albanian border and the obstacles they are facing requires a quick solution,” Meta said on Friday. He called on the responsible Albanian authorities to inform citizens without delay on the new situation and procedures to be observed at the border crossings imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic in order not to create unmanageable gatherings.
Meta noted that it is to the benefit of all that the citizens should be in constant communication with Albanian embassies and consulates, as well as to avoid as much as possible movements beyond the conditions of urgency and necessity
“Everyone is urged to strengthen cooperation between citizens and responsible authorities in this difficult situation to show understanding and cooperation, but especially solidarity and high responsibility to overcome this extraordinary challenge at the lowest cost,” concluded President’s message./argumentum.al
