President ‘Gives’ Last Chance to ‘One-Party Parliament’ to Respect June 5 Accord
President Ilir Meta has spoken again about the changes to the Electoral Code by majority and the June 5 agreement at a farewell meeting with French Ambassador Christina Vasak at the end of her tenure in Tirana.
“I praised her (Christina Vasak) active role in strengthening bilateral relations, and for her sincere support for our country’s European integration process,” Meta said in a post on his FB account on Friday.
Meanwhile, he stressed that he will give one last chance to the ‘one-party parliament’ to respect the agreement after the public request of the EPP.
Meta further said that Albania is still far from meeting the conditions to sit in the first Intergovernmental Conference with the EU for the first round of the accesion negotiations.
After the unilateral adoption of the constitutional amendments to the Electoral Code, the President and the opposition have accused Edi Rama and the majority of violating the June 5 agreement, which was also supported by the international partners which ‘invested’ in achieving that document.
In a comment on Albanian-French relationship President stressed: “I expressed confidence that the entry into force of the Agreement with the French Development Agency (AFD) will give a significant impetus to development projects in Albania, as well as increase interest in greater economic presence of France in Albania.” /argumentum.al
