TIRANA – “I am confident that Italy will overcome this severe crisis for itself but also for us, Europe!” has said President Ilir Meta in a message extending condolences to his Italian counterpart Sergio Mattarella and the families of the victims of the coronavirus pandemic which has plagued Italy.
Italy announced 627 more deaths on Friday, the biggest day-to-day increase in the country’s four-week epidemic, a day after surpassing China’s death toll. The total number of deaths in Italy has now reached 4,032, according to official figures.
“Yesterday marked another tragic number of deaths for our beloved Italy. In these difficult times, our prayers and thoughts go to the families who have lost their loved ones,” said Mr. Meta in his message wishing all the people affected by this pandemic a quick recovery, and good health to the entire Italian people.
“I am also following with concern the situation of our beloved Arberesh communities every day, caring for their health, as well as for the health of hundreds of thousands of Albanians who have lived, worked and contributed to Italy for years together with their families,” said the President in the message posted on his FB account on Saturday.
In addition he conveyed his gratitude to all Albanian doctors and medical personnel staff integrated into the Italian healthcare system who are doing their best to help Italian citizens with unparalleled professionalism, dedication and sacrifice. “We are deeply grateful for their noble and human commitment. I have the firm confidence that our beloved Italy will courageously overcome this severe crisis,” concluded President’s message. /argumentum.al
