The Criminal Court of Tirana decided on Monday the suspension from office of the President of Albanian Football Federation (FSHF), Armand Duka after the prosecution has taken him under investigation on charges of abuse of office and forgery.
The court also decided to suspend the other FSHF officials Ardian Haci, Ilir Shulku and Koço Kokëdhima. The reason is related to the preparations that Duka, Shulku and Haci are making for the organization of the March 2 Assembly in violation of the law and the five decisions given by the Court last week.
Prosecutors launched an investigation into the Albanian Football Federation nearly a month ahead of elections for its president, according to local media. The Albanian police had filed a report with the prosecution office on suspicions of abuse within the institution.
The news on the launch of investigations follows corruption allegations by Mayor of Tirana Erion Veliaj on FSHF President Armando Duka. Veliaj warned he would ask for national and international investigations against him.
Duka has been the head of the association since 2002. His presidency has often been accused of corruption and lack of transparency by sportsmen and politicians throughout the last 20 years. Apparently, the duel with Armando Duka was won by Erion Veliaj, as the mayor of Tirana has shares in the TIRANA football team. The current president was set to rerun for reelection against sports commentator Dritan Shakohoxha on March 2, 2022. /argumentum.al
