TIRANA, April 22 – President Bajram Begaj received on Saturday the Assistant Secretary General of NATO for Intelligence and Security, David Cattler.
President Begaj appreciated the contribution of NATO’s intelligence structures in dealing with complex security challenges.
Among other things, Begaj underlined that the cooperation between the intelligence structures of Albania and those of NATO is essential, in order to prevent the malignant influences of countries with unfriendly goals.
He also discussed with Cattler the situation in the Western Balkans region, where, despite the progress made, there are attempts by actors with geopolitical ambitions to expand their influence and hinder the European integration processes.
The head of state stressed that the agreement reached for the normalization of relations between the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Serbia is a positive step and should advance with the achievement of concrete results. The normalization of their relations should be centered towards mutual recognition and Kosovo’s membership in international organizations such as the UN and NATO.
In conclusion, President Begaj emphasized that Albania’s intelligence and security structures will continue to contribute and cooperate closely with NATO structures. /Argumentum.al
