TIRANA, May 11 – President Bajram Begaj said on Thursday that the sea issue with Greece must find a solution based on the Constitution of Albania and international laws.
Asked by journalists if he received a request from the institutions to give authorization for the start of talks on this issue, Begaj said at the joint press conference with the Polish President, Andrzej Duda, that “we have an issue with neighboring Greece. It is true that I have a request from the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, which is accompanied by an explanatory report.”
“As the President of the Republic, in compliance with the constitutional obligations, I take this request with the utmost seriousness. I believe it is an issue that needs to be resolved. Its solution is based on the Constitution of the Republic of Albania, on the decision of the Constitutional Court of 2010, on the international acts and laws, on the internal laws, but also on the rules of good neighborliness and reciprocity,” emphasized Begaj.
Begaj said that, “Greece is a strategic partner of ours, but it is also an important economic partner. We have the Albanian community in Greece and the Greek community in Albania, which are strong connecting bridges of this friendship and cooperation.”
President Begaj announced that he has met several times with Prime Minister Edi Rama.
“We discussed issues that were public, national security topics, issues related to the foreign service. Communication is institutional, a very good one,” said Begaj. /Argumentum.al
