President Ilir Meta has stated that there was no official announcement or request to suggest the termination, suspension or termination of the bilateral negotiation process between Albania and Greece by the negotiating team or the Albanian government.
This is the first reaction of the President regarding the decision of Greece to expand its territorial sea waters by 12 miles in the Ionian Sea.
In his statement posted on social networks on Monday, Meta said that the institutions of the government led by Edi Rama do not provide information regarding this issue.
“To date, I have no formal notice or request to suggest the termination, suspension or termination of the bilateral negotiation process, either by the negotiating team or by the Albanian government,” he said, adding that he had requested exhaustive information and full analysis of the Albanian government on any development, that is directly related or affects the negotiation process for the delimitation of the maritime space between the two countries.
Further on Meta recalled to the representatives of institutions at all levels of the state hierarchy the obligation and responsibility for the full compliance of their constitutional and legal activity in the service of state and national interests.
