The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vuçiç, in an interview for Radio Television of Vojvodina on Thursday said that the government will make an exception to the decision to export wheat and that 30,000 tons of wheat will go to Albania along with a smaller amount of corn.
“Even if we do not have a harvest, with the available amount we are able to offer a lot for the region and beyond. Russia and Ukraine are the second and fourth largest producers of wheat in the world. We will help traders, the price is good,” Vucic said.
A few days ago, after the Serbian government said it would stop exporting wheat and corn due to the war in Ukraine, Prime Minister Edi Rama said that through the ‘Open Balkans’, Albania could negotiate with Serbia and continue to receive the quantity of goods for which the Albanian companies had previously agreed.
Representatives of Serbia, Albania and North Macedonia, part of the “Open Balkans” initiative, had planned to hold a new meeting in mid-March, but postponed it to May due to the war in Ukraine. /Argumentum.al
