TIRANA, May 19 – President Ilir Meta has expressed his alarm that information on the detention of a group of underworld criminals had leaked a day before these arrest warrants were executed on Thursday.
President Meta stated that the Special Prosecution, SPAK should have acted before the elections. He also added that an explanation is needed as to why there was no detention of all the suspects, but only a part of them in Thursday’s operation.
The head of SPAK, Arben Kraja and the director of the State Police Gledis Nano issued official statements regarding the mega operation codenamed “Golden bullet” launched on Thursday morning which, according to them, led to the detention of 18 underworld criminals after prosecution issued 32 arrest warrants. Their names have been discovered after the testimony given by the repentant, Nuredin Dumani, according to revelations of Kraja and Nano.
“SPAK should have acted before the elections. There should be explanations for the public why the latest action did not lead to the detention of all suspects. The people arrested today by SPAK are the ones who have been charged with electoral crimes,” President Meta said in a talk show on a local TV on Thursday.
The head of state hoped that justice would work so that those who were untouchable until today would be brought to justice.
“It is important that the investigation continues and be independent. I am not just mentioning the incidents at election time but also those before,” said President Meta. / Argumentum.al
