The President of the Republic, Ilir Meta has issued an ultimatum to the Rama Government and two appeals to the citizens in conditions when all parties must cooperate to face the serious situation of pandemic in Albania.
Meta asked the Government in a post on FB on Saturday the following: “Increase the testing. Increase the budget for the health system. Reimburse every citizen who is treated at home.”
He also addressed the citizens: “Everyone should wear masks. Together against COVID-19, for the protection of the health of every citizen! ”
It should be recalled that the latest pandemic figures in Albania are showing increasing deterioration of the infection.
On Friday, there were 490 new cases while 7 patients passed away according to figures released by Health Ministry.
The total confirmed number of COVID-19 cases in Albania stands at 26,211, with 12,574 recoveries and 598 fatalities since the outbreak of the pandemic on March 9 this year.
But it seems out of tune and far from the reality the ‘bright’ picture of the pandemic situation ‘found’ by some authorities of international organizations in Albania. The latest one is Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Europe Hans Kluge who stayed in Tirana two days and at the end of the trip on Thursday declared having Health Minister Overtake Manastirliu by his side:
“I want to express my gratitude to the Albanian government for the prompt and decisive response to COVID-19. Albania is one of the few countries that did not suffer the first wave, as it immediately decided to impose strict restrictions.”
As Kluge was making that statement many TV stations were broadcasting live scenes from the Infectious Diseases Hospital, which showed over 10 ambulances that had sent emergencies with patients with COVID and were waiting for hours as there were no free space to get the patients hospitalized. PM Edi Rama claimed that ambulances are quite effecient places where patients could be taken care of!!! /argumentum.al
