An ultimative package of demands and the warning of erecting tents in front of government building were the key elements of the seventh protest held in Tirana on Tuesday.
Organized by civil society the number of protesters against the skyrocketing increase of prices of fuels and basic basket products is growing day by day.
The activist, Adriatik Lapaj has revealed the demands of the protesters which include the abolition of the oil tax and the revision of the 2022 budget setting Saturday as the deadline for the government to meet them. The general demand is the steady reduction of the price of fuel so that it is at the level with the countries of the region as well as the respect for the vulnerable and the needy.
In the meantime a speaker said that they were prepared to set up tents in the square on Saturday to show their resistance to the government.
“I call on all relevant civic groups to gather and show the government head that this is Albania. Prepare Edi Rama as we will set up tents here, we are prepared,” he said. Below are the demands of the protesters: -Removal of turnover tax and alternate suspension of the fiscal burden on the price of fuel.
-VAT suspension for basic basket products.
-Defining and temporarily raising the profit margin in the hydrocarbon sector and transparency with the public.
“We ask the government to grame a second package that meets all the demands,” it was said in the protest.
The protesters said there would be a break until Saturday, which is also the deadline to meet the demands, to gather again in a nationwide protest.
It is reported that protests were held in other areas of Albania which have been cursed by PM Rama who alleges they are backed by Russia! /Argumentum.al
