Doctors and nurses held a one-hour silent protest on Thursday at the Emergency of the University Hospital Center ‘Nene Tereza’ (QSUT) in Tirana demanding the fulfillment of their requests.
As they had warned, the medical staff abandoned their work and stayed outside the Emergency Room at the QSUT.
Dr. Ibrahim Ruka, a surgeon, told the media that the union was deceived because neither the Prime Minister, Edi Rama nor the Minister of Health Ogerta Manastirliu accepted the meeting with the doctors’ representation.
He said that Thursday’s protest lasted an hour, but a decision will be made by the coordinating council later.
“Today we just received the news that both the prime minister and the minister refused to meet with the union representation and their councilors were available,” he said adding that they feel greatly cheated.
“I believe that the coordinating council will meet and decide on further actions. Today is an hour- protest, then a decision will be made by the council”, declared the surgeon.
The protest is happening at a time when the health system in Albania is getting worser while the COVID19 pandemic is taking more threatening proportions in the country. /argumentum.al
