Prime Minister Edi Rama has expressed the expectations that leaders of developed countries will keep the promise of funding to support low- and middle-income countries starting from clean energy models, such as Albania.
Rama made this appeal at the UN conference on climate change COP26, held in Glasgow, Scotland saying that he was proud that Albania is not a polluting country on Tuesday.
“Our energy production is based on renewable sources, 100% hydric , zero percent fossil fuels,” Rama said.
“How do the big polluting countries think to help us non-polluters?” was the question put by Rama during his speech.
“Now that winter is coming, our budget is losing money, because we have to buy energy and prices have skyrocketed. Furthermore, due to the severe drought, our hydropower plants are unable to meet the needs of the country,” he said.
Regarding financing by rich countries, the PM said it should not come in the form of loans that place poor countries in the debt cycle trap, but through grants that empower them to invest.
“I started by saying that we have our eyes on your countries, as models of good governance. I hope we do not come to the point where we realize that it was a mistake,” said the head of the Albanian government. / Argumentum.al
