TIRANA, April 1 – Prime Minister Edi Rama was harsh after the news that was published in the media that an Albanian in Great Britain was held for 15 hours in a cell after British policemen confused mountain tea with narcotics.
Rama published on Saturday the article of “The Sun” and the post of an Albanian lawyer in Britain, Andi Hoxhaj, who had shared the news of the arrest of the Albanian painter, Agim Agaj after the police had confused tea with narcotics.
Rama called this event a sad story that showed about the suffering faced by brave people who have immigrated to Britain.
He noted that “Albania is fully committed to providing everything necessary for a successful fight against criminal networks.”
“However, if Britain cannot show respect for the Albanian community even with actions instead of words, how can we expect successful cooperation between our governments?” Rama asked.
“We all know the answer, but what I’m not sure is how my friend Rishi Sunak would handle the matter if a British citizen was arrested in Albania for carrying English tea and accused of being a drug dealer! This situation is discouraging and Agim’s persecutors must be held accountable,” said Rama.
The Prime Minister clarified that Andi Hoxhaj is a brilliant member of the Albanian community, who teaches jurisprudence in Britain, while Agim is an Albanian painter, a worker who paints houses for the British.
“What causes such a grave injustice in Britain for these virtuous individuals to suffer like this,” says Rama while sharing Andi Hoxhajt’s post, which stated that:
“The police arrested an Albanian because he was carrying mountain tea from Albania, demonstrating the effects of anti-immigrant rhetoric and the portrayal of Albanians as drug dealers. Therefore, cultural and educational connections are key to building connections.” /Argumentum.al
