TIRANA, September 5 – Prime Minister Edi Rama reacted on Tuesday regarding a resolution of the European People’s Parties (EPP), which asks the Albanian authorities to allow the swearing in of Fredi Beleri.
The elected imprisoned Mayor of Himara, south of Albania, Beleri is in prison under the charge of “Active corruption in elections”.
“Interesting! “We appeal to the Albanian authorities”… An appeal without specifying which authorities and, certainly, without being informed that in this case the problem is not the result of the elections, but of the courts, which have rejected such a request,” Rama said in a post on social networks.
Rama said that “I used ‘certainly'” because it would be really disturbing if the big European People’s Party passed a resolution entitled “Rule of Law” to demand a different result from the one decided by the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Corruption and Organized Crime and Special Courts with the same name.”
According to him, these institutions were established with the full support of the EU and the US and are closely assisted by the US and the EU in their so far impressive work against corruption and organized crime.
The head of the government said that if necessary, they could provide the leadership of the EPP with information on this issue in any format and at any time. /argumentum.al
