TIRANA, August 11 – “Italy is our most essential ally” said Prime Minister Edi Rama in an interview for the Italian television “La7” during which he focused on the relations between Albania and Italy and the support that Italy gives to this Balkan country in the integration process in the European Union.
To the question of how he sees Italy led by Giorgia Meloni, Rama answered: “Italy is Italy, whether it is Giorgia Meloni’s, or Romano Prodi’s, Silvio Berlusconi’s, or Mario Draghi’s.”
Regarding the integration of Albania in the European Union, Rama said that “we were born with this dream, and for the first time in our history of hundreds of years, we have been given the opportunity to choose.”
According to him, Albania wants to be part of Europe, it is its dream and it is the most Eurooptimistic country on the continent. “For today, maybe we are like lovers who want to get married at all costs, maybe later things can become more complex. But at the moment we want to be part of Europe, and Italy is our most essential ally…. We will continue with our alliance, we will continue with this friendship, Italy is there for us and we feel blessed to be close to you.”
Asked about Europe’s confrontation with the influx of immigrants in the Mediterranean Sea, Rama said that this is an old problem.
“This is an old, clear problem, unfortunately it reflects a Europe that fails to always look straight, and turns the other way when there are hot issues like these, and what does it do in this case? They leave everything to Italy! And if Europe is united, if Europe is common, this is a problem for Europe and not a problem simply for Italy,” said Rama./argumentum.al
