During the conversation with the citizens in Dibra, the Prime Minister, Edi Rama touched upon the legalization of cannabis for medical purposes, a question asked in the national counselling.
Rama said on Saturday that the legalization of cannabis as a basic subject for pharmaceuticals creates employment and brings income.
“The legalization of medical cannabis, so not for use by all, but as a basic subject for pharmaceuticals, is showing that there is significant income in the economy. It creates employment, it creates a new voice in exports and it definitely generates more revenue,” said the government head. But he noted that if many things of the past related to narcotics in Albania serious thought should be given before such a decision is made.
“When it comes to partners they are still skeptical about it not because they have the wrong reasoning, but they do not live here. They live but are not connected to our budget and it is easier for them not to consider this case reasoning than you better not do it at all,” Rama said.
Albania is ranked among the countries with the highest level of drug trafficking and vast areas of the country are planted with cannabis. / Argumentum.al
