TIRANA, September 4, 2022 – I believe that every country in the Western Balkans region should be part of the “Open Balkans”, Prime Minister Edi Rama has declared.
“Relations in the region, in my opinion, are better than ever, but not as good as they should be,” said Rama in an interview with Euronews Serbia on Saturday.
The Albanian Prime Minister spoke about the relations between Albania and Serbia, the issue of Kosovo, but also the future of the “Open Balkans” and the positions of the European Union and other countries in the region on this initiative.
According to him, the problems should not be ignored but should be seen as a problem that should be solved in a single process. “That road must be filled with positive energy and good will to strengthen relations, to know each other and to understand each other better, with the belief that eventually the problem must be solved,” he said.
“Right now, we are in Belgrade to open the Wine Festival, which brought together many producers, not only from Serbia and Albania, but also from North Macedonia, Montenegro, Bosnia. I have seen the wine from our manufacturers and international traders. It’s great for everyone. But, today it could be completely different. We could not unite, because something bad could have happened on the border in the north of Kosovo. But it didn’t happen, because there was a solution,” Rama said.
Further he said that everyone knows that he was 100 percent on the side of the Kosovo government when it comes to recognition.
“However, it is no secret that I have a different opinion from that of the Kosovo government when it comes to dialogue with Serbia and access to the “Open Balkans”. I believe that Kosovo should participate in the “Open Balkans”. President Vucic says that everyone can sit at that table,” said Rama.
